Who Caused the Oil Rig Explosion in Landman Episode 2?

Here is the ending explained for Landman Episode 2, which explores an oil rig explosion referenced in the first episode’s ending. Created by Taylor Sheridan, Landman is firmly set in the world of oil rigs and their inner workings. It primarily follows Tommy Norris, an oil company crisis executive struggling to handle his professional and personal life.

So, who caused the oil rig explosion? Was it Tommy? Did Cooper do it? Keep reading to discover what or who caused the oil rig explosion in Landman Episode 2.

Who was responsible for the oil rig explosion in Landman Episode 2?

Landman Episode 2’s oil rig explosion was caused by faulty and outdated machinery.

However, Cooper was initially believed to have been responsible for the explosion. This is because he survived while the rest of his crew was killed. Moreover, Tommy also shows up and presses Cooper about the tragic incident, asking if he had turned a knob shaped like a Christmas tree by mistake. However, Cooper mentions not remembering anything.

It’s not surprising Tommy suspected Cooper, as the two have a strained relationship for the better part of the premiere episodes. Tommy accused Cooper of being selfish because of the latter’s desire to work in oil fields. Cooper, in turn, calls out Tommy for his parenting and implies he is an absent father.

The oil rig explosion worsened things for Tommy. The horrible situation added to the trouble he was facing earlier, which was an explosion caused by three vehicular crashes. This explosion also involved his company and attracted the attention of law enforcement. To make matters worse, the attorney Rebecca Savage, who had arrived in Odessa instead of the attorney Tommy was expecting, believes the oil rig explosion was Tommy’s fault.

Landman’s first two episodes are currently streaming on Paramount Plus. Billy Bob Thornton headlines the series. The supporting cast comprises Jacob Lofland, Michelle Randolph, Ali Larter, Kayla Wallace, Paulina Chavez, Mark Collie, James Jordan, Demi Moore, and Jon Hamm.
