The Young and the Restless star Melissa Ordway, who plays Abby Newman, recently got a haircut, surprising many of her fans. As such, they are wondering why the actress cut her hair. Was it for personal reasons or was it a professional necessity? Here’s everything you need to know about it.
Why did The Young and the Restless’ Melissa Ordway cut her hair?
Melissa Ordway, on her Instagram stories where she ran a Q&A while on a flight, was asked why she had cut her hair short. To this, she replied that since the show had taken her “off contract,” she decided to cut her hair to slightly change her appearance for auditions.
“Definitely not something I wanted but I love and respect my Y&R family and appreciate any time they ask me back,” she added. (via Soaps.sheknows)
Also in her stories, she addressed what “off contract” meant when a fan, who did not want her to leave the show asked her about it. She assured the fan that she was still playing the character, but was not guaranteed appearances in episodes, which gave her the freedom to work on other projects. “I’m still a part of the Y&R family and pray they continue to let Abby be a part of all the things in Genoa City,” she said. “Trust me, I hope I’m still there all the time!” the actress added.
She also reasoned that she was put off contract as the show wished to explore other characters and storylines.
In her stories, Ordway was also asked other questions related to the show, like whom Abby had married apart from Chance and Devon, how long she had been on the soap opera, and her favorite storyline of the series.
Ordway had assumed the role of Abby Newman in 2013. The character was previously played by several other actors, including Darcy Rose Byrnes.
