Yes, Donald Trump Has Asked Elon Musk To Help US Government

Following his historic win in the 2024 US Presidential Elections, Donald Trump has reportedly appointed Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy to lead a new department. The duo will be heading a freshly constructed division, presently termed the Department of Government Efficiency. As such, the public has expressed interest in learning more about this unexpected collaboration as well as its impact on the country’s current dynamics.

Here’s everything you need to know regarding Trump’s decision to enlist Musk and Ramaswamy as his associates in his second administration.

On Tuesday, the soon-to-be 47th President of the United States confirmed that Elon Musk and fellow entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy will co-head a department. It aims at reducing government spending.

Donald Trump first introduced this idea during his campaign trail back in September. He explained the proposed workings of this new division by stating, “This commission will develop an action plan to totally eliminate fraud and improper payments within six months. This will save trillions of dollars.” The businessman-turned-politician later admitted that Elon Musk was open to leading such a branch, before eventually adding Vivek Ramaswamy to the mix.

Trump also clarified what the two magnates could accomplish with the Department of Government Efficiency. He added, “Together, these two wonderful Americans will pave the way for my Administration to dismantle Government Bureaucracy, slash excess regulations, cut wasteful expenditures, and restructure Federal Agencies,” as per CNN.

Both Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy have provided extensive cost-cutting solutions for the government in the past. While Ramaswamy published a white paper that allowed the US President to dispose of any federal agency he deemed unnecessary, Musk’s pitch laid much emphasis on the rollback of government regulations. Moreover, the Tesla CEO suggested a system that would target improvident employees and ensure munificent severance packages for fired government officials.

Despite Trump’s announcement, it is currently unclear as to how the department, which intends to “provide advice and guidance from outside of Government,” would function. Many concerned citizens have also raised doubts that the Congress would be able to sanction such a significant alteration in the existing legislative system at all.
