Why Did Clark Reveal His Secret Identity in Superman & Lois Season 4?

CW’s Superman & Lois is currently premiering its final few episodes, with the show set to conclude after Season 4. The ultimate chapter in the series has already witnessed several enthralling plotlines, including the death and subsequent revival of the Kryptonian superhero. The narrative added another twist to the tale with its latest chapter, with Superman surprisingly deciding to reveal his identity in Episode 7. But, why did the Man of Steel voluntarily give away his cover on the CW series?

Here’s everything you need to know regarding Clark Kent’s shocking decision to reveal his identity in Superman & Lois Season 4 Episode 7.

Why Clark Kent reveals his secret identity to the world in Superman & Lois Season 4

Tyler Hoechlin’s titular superhero decides to disclose his deepest-kept secret to the public after Emmitt Pergande conveys his intention to take revenge on Superman for their earlier scuffle in Season 3.

Pergande, the estranged father of Jonathan’s girlfriend Candice, learns of Clark Kent’s true identity from Lex Luthor and arrives in Smallville with a vengeful plan to reveal Superman’s secret to the world. He crashes Kent’s appearance at the local diner and attempts to coerce him into divulging this sensitive information himself. However, when the Daily Planet reporter refuses, Pergande threatens to shoot him to prove the point. Feeling cornered about the possible actions of an unhinged madman, Kent successfully deflects the fired bullet, confirming his hidden persona as Superman to the Smallville public.

Despite defusing the situation at the cost of revealing his identity as Superman, the diner incident leaves Kent in a difficult position. He admits to his family that his secretive identity seems to be causing more and more complications as the days pass by. Moreover, his death and eventual resurrection earlier in the season had already instilled much suspicion in the minds of the Smallville citizens. Considering the sensitive nature of their present surroundings, the Kent family ultimately decides to reveal Superman’s secret about his identity in a bid to ease things.

Consequently, Kent schedules an interview with the Daily Planet, where he appears without his iconic costume. After divulging his secret, Kent also sheds light on his prolonged career as Superman as well as the primary reasons behind keeping his identity hidden for so long. While things end on a positive note in Episode 7, this reveal is expected to bombard Tyler Hoechlin’s Superman with a hoard of issues in the upcoming episodes.
