Shawn Mendes recently opened up about figuring out his sexuality in a heartfelt speech during a live show. The singer made his music comeback a few months ago and is now gearing up for the release of his self-titled album, “Shawn.” Ahead of the awaited record, the 26-year-old reignited rumors about his sexual identity with one of his unreleased songs. Now, Mendes has directly addressed his sexuality in a touching confession at the Colorado concert.

At his recent shows for family and friends, Mendes has been performing his upcoming song “The Mountain,” videos of which have spread on social media. Shawn Mendes admits he is still ‘figuring out’ his sexuality

Shawn Mendes shared a touching speech while performing his songs at his Colorado concert. A fan-filmed footage has been garnering attention on TikTok showing the singer getting candid about his sexuality. In the clip, Mendes tells the crowd, “Since I was really young, there’s been this thing about my sexuality. People have been talking about it for so long.”

Mendes thinks “it’s kind of silly,” because for him, “sexuality is such a beautifully complex thing, and it’s so hard to just put into boxes.” Moreover, the musician shared that it “always felt like such an intrusion on something very personal.” He further noted, “Something that I was figuring out in myself, something that I had yet to discover, and still have yet to discover.”

The pop artist then revealed that writing the song “The Mountain” felt “really important” to him. Mendes recalled, “It felt like a moment where I could address it in a way that felt close to my heart.” He added that he is “speaking freely now” because he wants to be “closer to everyone.” Mendes also talked about the “real truth” about his life and sexuality.

The musician expressed that he is “figuring it out like everyone.” Mendes continued, “I don’t really know sometimes, and I know other times.” The singer’s confession was met with loud cheers at the concert as he shared, “And it feels really scary because we live in a society that has a lot to say about that.” Mendes added that he is “trying to be really brave” and allowing himself “to be a human and feel things.” He concluded his emotional speech by saying, “That’s all I really want to say about that for now.
