The mystery surrounding Nicholas Scratch’s demise in the early episodes of Agatha All Along has left fans questioning what happened to Kathryn Hahn’s son. An episode teased that Agatha might have sacrificed him for the Book of the Damned. However, the finale, titled “Maiden Mother Crone,” ultimately unveils key details of Nicholas Scratch’s journey from birth to death. So, here’s a closer look at how Agatha’s son died.
How Nicholas Scratch dies in Agatha All Along
Death a.k.a Rio Vida secretly summoned Nicholas Scratch in the dark when Agatha was asleep and took him away.
The origin of Nicholas Scratch dates back to 1750 when Agatha was pregnant and stopped near a tree as her labor pains began in the woods. She witnessed Lady Death coming towards her as she was about to give birth to her child to take it away.
However, as Agatha cries and begs for her son to live, Lady Death gives her time to live a life with her son. This is why, in a past episode, Rio Vidal says that she gave Agatha “special treatment.” As Death, she didn’t take away her son initially, instead, allowed her to spend some years with him. After giving birth, she names her Nicholas Scratch, as she made her “from scratch” using no powers or spells.
She then walks the made-up Witches’ Road with her son by her side, luring witches into her trap and killing them all, further grasping their powers. Every time, she used to form a coven, sing the song, steal their powers, and pile up their bodies for Death in order to keep her at bay from her son.
However, when Nicholas denies aiding her powerful mother in killing witches, death comes to him. When Agatha and Nicholas are asleep one night, Rio Vidal arrives in the dark, giving the kid a sign to come with her. She asks him to give his mother a final kiss and takes him away.
