What Happened to Los Angeles Chargers’ coach, Jim Harbaugh? Illness Explained

Jim Harbaugh recently revealed the illness that led him to temporarily exit the game between his team Los Angeles Chargers and the Denver Broncos on Sunday, October 13. The Chargers gave tough competition to the Broncos, who previously headlined their back-to-back three-match win. The final score was 23-16, making Charges the winners of the match. However, the head coach’s sudden health deterioration soon grabbed eyeballs at the beginning of the game.

So, what happened to Jim Harbaugh? Here are the details.

What illness is coach Jim Harbaugh suffering from?

Harbaugh is dealing with a type of arrhythmia called atrial flutter.

Harbaugh’s heart diagnosis dates back to 2012 when he coached the San Francisco 49ers for their match against the Chicago Bears. At the time, he experienced an irregular heartbeat and after coaching, went straight to the doctor. After consultation, Harbaugh underwent an ablation procedure. He had previously experienced similar in 1999 as well. “2-0 with an arrhythmia,” the coach jokingly said. (via ESPN)

Why did Jim Harbaugh miss the beginning of the Chargers vs Broncos game?

Harbaugh had to miss the Chargers vs. Broncos game briefly in the first quarter due to an atrial flutter episode.

During the latest match, Harbaugh explained that his heart began beating at an abnormal rate, which called for immediate medical care. He was taken into the locker room for treatment while the game was on. He underwent an electrocardiogram scan and the paramedics treated him to get his heart to a normal rate. He was back to normal and returned to the game later.

It was reportedly known that he felt a bit of discomfort on Saturday only but he didn’t pay attention to it. However, when he felt irregular heartbeats during pregame warmups, he eventually reported to the training staff and received instant treatment.
