Kamala Harris ‘It’s a Live Broadcast’ Microphone Slip-up Explained

Vice President Kamala Harris recently sparked controversy during her Hurricane Milton Speech due to a mic slip-up. While discussing the storm, she was caught on a hot mic, raising concerns about her focus during the briefing. The incident quickly drew public attention and criticism.

Now, many are wondering what was Kamala Harris’ mic slip-up moment during the Hurricane Milton Speech.

What happened to Kamala Harris during Hurricane Milton Speech?

During a briefing on Hurricane Milton, Vice President Kamala Harris unintentionally drew attention when she was overheard on a hot mic reminding someone that the meeting was being broadcast live. While National Weather Service Director Ken Graham was discussing the severe flooding risks expected from the hurricane, Harris appeared momentarily distracted by something off-camera. In an awkward attempt to remain discreet, she lifted her hands to cover her chin and partially hide her face, saying, “It’s a live broadcast.”

Following this unusual moment, Harris quickly redirected her focus. She asked Graham a follow-up question, highlighting her attention to the briefing. She asked, “You mentioned words matter, and, um, I know there is a lot of, um, media following this briefing. So, there have been, um — we’ve gone from a [Category] 5 to a [Category] 4, and the language that a lot of folks have been using is ‘downgrade,’ but it sounds like you’re cautioning us that that may communicate a sense that the danger is lessened, when, in fact, it’s not. Can you talk a little bit about that?”

Prior to this incident, Harris seemed to have been reading from a script, frequently checking her notes. Later that night, Hurricane Milton made landfall near Siesta Key, Florida, as a Category 3 storm.

After the incident, Harris received considerable backlash on social media. Many users criticized her for looking distracted and unprepared during an important briefing. Critics questioned her professionalism, suggesting she relied on off-camera help.
