Why Was PewDiePie Banned From Twitch?

The fans of Felix Kjellberg, popularly known as PewDiePie were recently left puzzled after the YouTuber was banned from the livestreaming platform, Twitch. This isn’t the first time PewDiePie has faced a ban on the platform. However, what intrigued the curiosity of his fans more was the reason behind the ban.

Here is all the information on why PewDiePie was banned despite not being the original poster of content on the platform.

PewDiePie gets banned from Twitch

According to a report by GamingBible, on October 3, 2024, many fans on the internet noticed that PewDiePie’s account on Twitch had been banned. However, the ban didn’t last long. According to the StreamerBans account on X (Twitter), PewDiePie was ”unbanned after 14 minutes and 24 seconds” from Twitch.

Moreover, the ban also prompted many fans to criticize Twitch, considering PewDiePie hasn’t been streaming on the platform since 2023. As per the outlet, PewDiePie transferred the rights to his account to another creator. Because of this, the account is constantly getting updated with his old clips from YouTube. Thus, the report suggests that he was banned on the accounts of impersonation.

The rules regarding impersonation that went through a change in September 2024, state that the practice of impersonation is “malicious that compromises trust” in the streaming platform’s service. The rules further assert that any content which is made “to impersonate an individual or organization is prohibited” and this also includes making duplicate accounts of the staff members of Twitch, and known personalities.

Additionally, Twitch hasn’t provided any clear confirmation on the ban. PewDiePie has been on a hiatus from streaming since January 2020. Although he does post content on his YouTube from time to time, the YouTuber has not done any video game streams, which boosted his popularity. Previously, PewDiePie faced a ban on Twitch in May 2023, on which he made a video and posted it on YouTube. The reason for that ban as well remains unknown.
