Luke Bryan comments on Beyonce’s CMA award snub

Luke Bryan recently commented on the controversy surrounding Beyonce’s getting snubbed at the CMA Award nominations for her album Cowboy Carter. In a conversation with Andy Cohen on Sirius XM’s Andy Cohen Live, Bryan acknowledged the strong support Beyonce receives from her fans, known as the Beyhive. He explained, “It’s a tricky question because, obviously, Beyonce made a country album and Beyonce has a lot of fans out there that have her back. And if she doesn’t get something they want, man, they come at you, as fans should do.”

While he welcomes artists from different genres entering the country scene, Bryan emphasized that just because someone produces a country album doesn’t automatically warrant a nomination. He added, “A lot of great music is overlooked.”

Bryan speculated on the potential reasons behind the Country Music Association’s decision to overlook Beyonce. He said, “Everybody loved that Beyoncé made a country album. Nobody’s mad about it. But where things get a little tricky — if you’re gonna make country albums, come into our world and be country with us a little bit.”

Beyonce has previously expressed her complicated relationship with the country genre. The singer revealed that Cowboy Carter has emerged from her past experiences feeling unwelcome in the field. In her 2016 performance of ‘Daddy Lessons’ at the CMA Awards, she faced criticism. This subsequently led to the performance being removed from the CMA website. Earlier this year, she expressed how her past experiences motivated her to explore country music’s history and connect with its rich traditions.
