What Happened to Tommy Kramer? Health Update

Curious about Tommy Kramer’s health? Fans of the former Minnesota Vikings quarterback were stunned when the NFL icon shared a significant health update on social media. The College Football Hall of Famer, known for his incredible comebacks, recently revealed his battle with a life-altering diagnosis. So, what exactly happened to Tommy Kramer, and how is the Minnesota Vikings’ former player coping?

Here are all the details.

Tommy Kramer announces dementia diagnosis

The 69-year-old Tommy Kramer made a heartfelt announcement regarding his health. He revealed to his fans on X (formerly Twitter) that he was diagnosed with dementia a year ago.

In his post, he wrote, “Dr’s say I could have anywhere from 2 to 10 years, just had my year check up and it hasn’t advanced and I’ve been sober for almost a year now which will definitely help.”

Kramer mentioned that he found inspiration from fellow NFL legend Brett Favre, who publicly announced his Parkinson’s diagnosis. This prompted Tommy Kramer to come forward about his dementia diagnosis, raising awareness for issues that athletes face post-retirement.

Despite the seriousness of his condition, Kramer made it clear that he doesn’t want sympathy. He wrote, “Please, no sympathy, I’ve lived a great life and wouldn’t change a thing. Nobody wanted to win more than me and I never gave up, and that’s exactly how I’m going to battle this.”

Kramer acknowledged the risks that come with playing professional football and expressed gratitude for the NFL giving him the opportunity. He also took a minute to address the financial burden NFL players face.

“Financially I’m fine, but I know there are players out there who I played with that need all the help they can get. Unfortunately for me, the NFL will only try to help out with any of my medical bills and therapy what my personal insurance won’t cover. I’m hoping to bring some awareness so the NFL will be able to help others and future players who are battling illnesses like myself,” he mentioned.

Despite his diagnosis, Kramer reassured his fans that he’s not slowing down. He expressed his desire to keep visiting small towns, meet fans, and spread joy for as long as he can. He closed his message with a poignant life lesson. “We’re not here for a long time, we’re here for a good time.”
