The recent release of The Penguin series has contributed immensely to the expanding Matt Reeves’ Batman universe. Consequently, a flurry of DC characters have received live-action adaptations, including the menacing Sofia Falcone, portrayed by Cristin Milioti. One such character is Victor Aguilar, who makes his small-screen debut with The Penguin. As such, fans are curious about his identity and are eager to know more about his origins. But, is Aguilar a recurring character in the DC pages?
Here’s everything you need to know.
Who is DC’s Victor Aguilar in The Penguin and who plays him?
The Penguin’s Victor Aguilar is a teenage resident of Gotham City who lives in a downtrodden part of the town. The part is portrayed by Dominican American actor Rhenzy Feliz.
Introduced in the very first episode of the newly launched show, Aguilar crosses paths with Oswald Cobblepot after he attempts to steal the mob boss’ car. While Cobblepot initially decides to eliminate the youngster, he ultimately spares Aguilar’s life and recruits him as his sidekick.
Is Victor Aguilar an original character or from DC Comics?
Despite his budding relationship with The Penguin, as seen in the show, Victor Aguilar is a completely original character. His part was especially conceptualized for the series and does not have any connections to the DC Comics.
Is Victor Aguilar The Batman universe’s Victor Zsasz?
At the time of writing, the showrunners have yet to confirm if Victor Aguilar is actually a reimagination of the villainous Victor Zsasz in The Penguin series. That being said, the theory could stand true as the two characters do have several similarities.
In the comics, Zsasz shares a complicated relationship with Oswald Cobblepot. After losing his parents, Zsasz slips into depression and turns to gambling as an escape. In the process, he loses his entire fortune, with the Penguin cheating him off his last penny in a rigged game. Meanwhile, Victor Aguilar is shown to have a peculiar bond with the Penguin in the series. Just like Zsasz, Aguilar finds himself in a messy situation due to his financial background, which eventually lands him in the crosshairs of Cobblepot.
As such, Rhenzy Feliz’s Victor Aguilar could turn out to be a revised version of Victor Zsasz in the future. However, there is no concrete evidence to support this hypothesis at the moment.
