What Did Pharrell Williams Say About Celebrity Political Endorsements?

As the 2024 United States presidential election race heats up, celebrities have begun voicing their support for their preferred candidates. While many celebrities are endorsing the Democratic candidate, Kamala Harris, others have shown support for her Republican counterpart, Donald Trump. This has prompted Pharrell Williams, the renowned singer, songwriter, and record producer, to voice his opinion on the matter.

Here is what Pharrell Williams had to say about celebrities endorsing political candidates.

Pharrell Williams’ statement on celebrity political endorsements explained

In a recent interview, Pharrell Williams criticized celebrities for giving political endorsements. He stated that it “annoyed” him whenever he saw a celebrity advising people on who their preferred candidate should be. Williams’s remark comes after celebrities such as Taylor Swift and George Clooney have come out in support of Kamala Harris. Meanwhile, the likes of Amber Rose and Hulk Hogan have voiced their support for Donald Trump.

When asked by The Hollywood Reporter if he would allow one of the two parties to use his music in their campaign, Williams stated that he didn’t do politics. He added, “In fact, I get annoyed sometimes when I see celebrities trying to tell you [who to vote for]. There are celebrities that I respect that have an opinion, but not all of them. I’m one of them people [who says], ‘What the heck? Shut up. Nobody asked you.'”

Pharrell Williams clarified that even though he would vote because he cared about his people and country, he had chosen not to do any endorsements. “When people get out there and get self-righteous and they roll up their sleeves and shit, and they are out there walking around with a placard: ‘Shut up!'”

The music icon elaborated, “So, no, I would rather stay out of the way, and obviously, I’m going to vote how I’m going to vote. I care about my people and I care about the country, but I feel there’s a lot of work that needs to be done, and I’m really about the action.”

The 2024 United States presidential election will take place on Tuesday, November 5, 2024.
