The names of the three new Saturday Night Live cast members have been revealed. They are to replace the three alums not returning for the 50th season of the iconic live sketch comedy show. As expected, fans are curious about which SNL 2024 cast members were fired and the new ones replacing them.
Here is what we have learned about the three departing SNL cast members and the three new additions.
Who are SNL 2024’s fired cast members?
The three SNL cast members who were let go before the 50th season are Chloe Troast, Punkie Johnson, and Molly Kearney.
Troast was fired from the series after only one season. After Deadline broke the news, she confirmed it through an Instagram post. “Unfortunately I was not asked back to SNL this season. I wish I was going back to be with all the amazing friends I made there, it truly felt like home. But it wasn’t in the cards,” she shared.
Meanwhile, during her appearance on David Spade and Dana Carvey’ Fly on The Wall podcast, Punkie Johnson said she didn’t know if she belonged “at this job.” She added, “I feel like with me and SNL, I feel like it was more of a mutual thing. Because I can tell you right now, by February—last season, I was like, ‘Nope, I’m done.’”
Meanwhile, Molly Kearney was SNL’s first-ever non-binary cast member. Following their firing after a two-season tenure, they took to Instagram to confirm the news. Kearney referred to their time on the show as “a dream come true.”
Who are the new comedians joining Saturday Night Live Season 50’s cast?
The three new comedians joining the cast of SNL Season 50 as featured players are Ashley Padilla, Jane Wickline, and Emil Wakim.
Ashley Padilla has been part of the Groundlings sketch troupe since 2021. Her acting credits include HBO’s Curb Your Enthusiasm and NBC’s Night Court.
On the other hand, Jane Wickline is a popular TikToker, who has amassed a large following partly due to being a cast member of the live show Stapleview. Moreover, Emil Wakim is Lebanese-American. In 2022, he appeared on NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, a series produced by the SNL creator Lorne Michaels.
Additionally, feature players Marcello Hernandez, Michael Longfellow, and Devon Walker will appear as main cast members on SNL’s 50th season. It premieres on September 28, 2024.
