Why was Tyrese Gibson arrested?
Tyrese Gibson had been arrested for failing to pay the amount of child support that had been ordered by the court.
As per a report from TMZ, the actor had been in Fulton County court on Monday. He had been in court for a hearing in his ongoing child support battle with ex-wife Samantha Lee, but it went poorly. Judge Kevin Farmer was upset with Gibson’s refusal to pay the monthly $10K child support amount. He had previously ordered the actor to start paying it back in April 2023.
Farmer subsequently held Gibson in contempt of court. As a result, the bailiff put handcuffs on the latter and took him out of the courtroom. After this, Judge Farmer stated Tyrese Gibson could make up for the payment failure if he paid a sum of $73,000 (which also included the $7500 attorney fees for Lee’s attorney).
However, Gibson was released from custody later that evening after his attorney Tanya Mitchell Graham filed an appeal of the judge’s ruling. It stipulated that he was not required to pay the $73K before his release. However, Gibson still owed child support but the payment due date had been delayed.
According to TMZ, the actor and his legal team performed a similar legal stunt in 2023, when the judge ordered his payment of child support. He had been paying some amount to Samantha Lee monthly. However, it was only a sum of $2,200 instead of the expected $10,000.
The Fast & Furious actor reacted to his arrest on Instagram, calling it “shocking” and “traumatic.” Here, he also expressed that he tried to get Judge Kevin Farmer removed from office twice. Moreover, Gibson expressed confusion and shock at the latter’s hatred of him. He also expressed bafflement at Lee’s lawyer Adam Glickman’s alleged attempts to “lie, manipulate, and gaslight him via his presentation.”
