In a recent interview, Joblo asked Wood if he could reprise his role as the LOTR protagonist in the upcoming movie. He gave a positive reply, saying he was more than open to the possibility. Wood began, “It would be pretty incredible. I have to say, any return to New Zealand to work with those individuals within the context of that world would be… Jumping back into a world that’s so beloved and means so much to me. So yeah, it would be awesome.”

Speaking with Big Issue, the thespian revealed that a script is not complete yet and urged the creators to be quick. “I’ve just been told there are going to be more films and Gandalf will be involved and they hope that I’ll be playing him,” says McKellen. “When? I don’t know. What the script is? It’s not written yet. So they better be quick!”

While promoting his recent Western flick, The Dead Don’t Hurt, Mortensen spoke with GQ about the possibility of becoming Aragorn again as long as there is a solid script. When asked if he would consider returning to the franchise, Mortensen replied, “Sure. I don’t know exactly what the story is, I haven’t heard. Maybe I’ll hear about it eventually.”
He added, “I like playing that character. I learned a lot playing the character. I enjoyed it a lot. I would only do it if I was right for it in terms of, you know, the age I am now and so forth. I would only do it if I was right for the character. It would be silly to do it otherwise.”
As the name suggests, The Hunt for Gollum will focus on the titular character immortalized by Andy Serkis. Not only will Serkis reprise this iconic role, but he will also serve as the director.
