Yoo Ah-in sentenced to a year in jail
Yoo Ah-in had been sentenced to one year in jail on Tuesday following his arrest.
The actor’s arrest was on account of habitual illegal drug abuse, as reported by Yonhap News Agency. He faces multiple charges for illegally using propofol on 181 occasions in the guise of cosmetic procedures between 2020 and 2022.
Other charges against Ah-in include the purchase of 1,100 sleeping pills with prescriptions that used other people’s names, smoking marijuana while staying in the United States, and forcing his accomplices to withdraw their testimonies against him.
In addition to the arrest, a fine of 2 million won or $1,490 was imposed on Yoo Ah-in. He had been immediately detained by court order following his trial and without physical detention. Prior to the actor’s one-year prison sentence, prosecutors in his case demanded a four year prison term.
In a previous court hearing, Yoo Ah-in expressed remorse for the harm he caused via his drug abuse. He also expressed his intentions to get clean and become a valuable member of society. “Whatever the (ruling) result may be, I will repay those who took care of me by becoming much healthier and more honest and by living my life as someone who can contribute to society,” he said.
Ah-in was also reportedly indicted for destroying evidence of his drug use by allegedly telling those he knows “to delete phone records.” However, in Tuesday’s ruling, he was found not guilty of destroying evidence and coercion due to lack of evidence. (via Korea JoongAng Daily)
