Tim Walz unharmed after motorcade vehicle accident

On Monday, a significant accident occurred involving Democratic vice presidential nominee Tim Walz’s motorcade as it traveled from the airport to a campaign event in Milwaukee. The crash, which took place on Interstate 794 around 1 p.m. local time, affected several vans towards the rear of the convoy. These vehicles, which were carrying press members and some staff, collided, leading to considerable damage and some minor injuries. Despite the severity of the crash, Walz, who was seated closer to the front of the motorcade, was unharmed.

The White House reported that President Joe Biden, who was en route to a separate campaign stop in Pittsburgh, and Vice President Kamala Harris, campaigning in Detroit, both reached out to Walz following the incident. Harris’ campaign confirmed that she also spoke with Walz to check on his condition. Images shared on social media showed the rear vans with crumpled front and back ends.

Addressing the situation at his event, Walz said, “We’ve spoken with the staff. I’m relieved to say that with a few minor injuries, everybody’s going to be okay.” He extended his gratitude to President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, the U.S. Secret Service, and local first responders for their quick action. The crash reportedly left one person with an injured arm, and other minor injuries were reported (via AP News).

The exact cause of the crash remains unclear. However, Walz’s team was able to continue with the scheduled appearance despite the disruption. Republican vice-presidential nominee JD Vance also expressed concern via social media, hoping that everyone involved was all right.
