Industry S03E04 Ending Explained: Who Made the Reddit Comments?

Industry Season 3 Episode 4 has aired on HBO and is now available on HBO Max, and the viewers want to know how it ends and who made the Reddit comments that alluded to Rishi’s toxic behavior at the sales floor of Pierpoint. Titled “White Mischief,” the episode focuses on Rishi Ramdani (Sagar Radia), the foul-mouthed market maker introduced in season 2, as he has an extraordinary day even by Pierpoint’s standards. Here is the spoilers-filled ending explainer of Industry Season 3 Episode 4.

What happens to Rishi Ramdani at the end of Industry Season 3 Episode 4?

After the catastrophic ESG conference in the previous episode, Lumi has gone into administration and things are in shambles as Pierpoint. As Eric and the other members of the team focus on what has clearly been a disastrous venture for the company, Rishi points out that they need to devote themselves to the government’s emergency budget this week, revealing that he has betted for the pound-sterling to go up against the U.S. dollars. Pierpoint desperately needs a win at this point, and Eric and the others realize that Rishi’s plans may bring them just that.

All this coincides with Rishi and Diana moving to their new countryside home, where Rishi faces prejudice for the color of his skin as well as for the fact that Rishi’s new neighbors have a distinct aversion to change. It is also revealed in the course of the episode that Rishi is addicted to porn, gambling, and cocaine. He has incurred a debt of ₤200,000 to Vinay, a childhood friend turned loanshark. He constantly rubs his nose, which even starts to bleed in one of the scenes after he receives a payment declined notification on a sex video. Further, it is established Rishi has repeatedly been unfaithful to Diana. On their wedding day in Season 2, he had an intimate encounter with Harper. This episode reveals that Rishi also slept with Sweetpea.

Unlike Rishi, his new associate, Anraj, is not necessarily a gambling man, even though he works at the sales department of an investment bank. He is justifiably troubled by the fact that Rishi is running a 625-million-pound position on the budget, almost half of which he has placed on the former’s book. At first, things go terribly wrong for Rishi as pound-sterling takes a massive hit after the budget announcement. He goes on a gambling spree with the money he got from his colleagues and wins substantially. He visits a nightclub, where someone beats him up, and later loses the money in another gambling spree.

However, ultimately, several miracles happen for Rishi. The government announces a full-scale rollback, and due to Rishi’s position, Pierpoint makes a considerable profit. Rishi and Diana decide to salvage their marriage after Diana reveals that she has been unfaithful as well. Rishi also decides to take down a cricket-themed bar that his new neighbors wanted him to keep. He even gets his dog back. He also pays back Vinay, giving the other man an additional £50 thousand as a tip.

After the rollback, Anraj observes that Rishi is not a good trader; he is just lucky. Rishi happily accepts this, and in the closing scene of the episode, he describes fate as his lover in a colorful language.

Who made the Reddit comments?

At the end of Industry Season 3 Episode 4, Venetia Berens implies that she was one of the anonymous subreddit posters.

Before the emergency budget announcement, HR calls Rishi after discovering an anonymous subreddit called Overheard at Pierpoint. Various people mentioned abrasive remarks there that HR believes Rishi made. They also disclose that they have unofficial, non-specific complaints about Rishi’s “lexicon being rather regressive.” Toward the end of the episode, Rishi encounters Venetia Berens (Indy Lewis) in the elevator. Venetia reveals that she has quit the job, before indicating that she is one of those anonymous posters on the subreddit and one of the people who complained to HR about Rishi.
