As the deadline for the summer transfer window in the Premier League approaches, English clubs are making last-ditch efforts to finalize new signings. One such team is Liverpool FC, who remain active in the market. The Reds have reportedly targeted Porto’s Alan Varela and have established contact for his transfer. But has the deal been completed?
Here are the latest details regarding Alan Varela’s proposed transfer to Liverpool FC.
Did Alan Varela transfer to Liverpool FC?
At the time of writing, Varela’s move to the Premier League has not yet materialized.
Desperate for a defensive midfielder, Liverpool has made extensive efforts to secure the youngster’s signature this summer. According to Argentine journalist German Garcia Grova, Liverpool has submitted a late bid to initiate the transfer of Alan Varela from Porto. Despite this late attempt, the deal is still far from completion.
Grova also reported that Porto requires Varela’s £75.6 million release clause to be activated for them to consider letting him go this summer. However, a previous report from O Jogo stated that the termination fee in his contract is £55 million. Meanwhile, Alan Varela has expressed his desire for a transfer to Liverpool, as conveyed by Record. “We always want to improve and make the leap to a league as important as the Premier League,” the player revealed to ESPN.
Despite Varela’s eagerness to move, there is still no confirmation regarding his transfer. Liverpool urgently needs a defensive midfielder, especially after sending youngster Stefan Bajcetic on loan. So far, Liverpool has only signed winger Federico Chiesa and goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili in this transfer window.
With just a few hours remaining on deadline day, Liverpool has limited time to finalize any last-minute signings.
