Charlie Vickers will reprise his role as Sauron in the second season of The Rings of Power.
However, in the second season, Sauron is portrayed by two different actors. Charlie Vickers takes on the role in the present-day storyline, while Jack Lowden plays the character in flashbacks set a thousand years before the events of Season 1. This revelation was unveiled in a promotional video for the series titled ‘The Faces of Sauron Season 2.
Despite this, when the prospect of a recasting had been brought up, Charlie Vickers was not intimidated by it. At a panel in San Diego Comic-Con 2024, attended by IGN, when a fan had asked him if he was afraid of being recast, Vickers replied that such a scenario was not considered and had “full faith” that it would not come to pass.
Charlie Vickers will bring a remarkably different performance as Sauron, now in the guise of Annatar, this time around. In a recent interview with ComicBook, Vickers explained that the guises Sauron took so far, which were Annatar and Hallbrand were “internally” the same. However, he opined that the manifestations of that “internal world” were different.
Vickers posited that Halbrand and Annatar shared the common goal of acquiring the Rings of Power. He argued that Halbrand’s breakthrough motivated Annatar, whose motives and character were intricately linked to Celebrimbor.
