The internet was in uproar when Skibidi Toilet was finally announced to be made into a movie. The viral meme had generated buzz in the recent past for its seemingly weird and violent visuals. However, many social media users are now questioning whether the movie has been canceled.
The aforementioned film is based on a compilation of shorts on YouTube created by DaFuq!?Boom!, aka Alexey Gerasimov. The project will feature Michael Bay, the director of the Transformers movie franchise. Here is all the information about whether the Skibidi Toilet movie is canceled or if is it still in production.
Is Michael Bay’s live-action Skibidi Toilet movie canceled?
As of now, the live-action adaptation of the viral meme Skibidi Toilet is still in the works and not yet canceled.
In July 2024, in a Variety podcast titled Strictly Business, Adam Goodman made the special announcement. The former president of Paramount Pictures stated that Skibidi Toilet will be adapted into a film and a television series. In fact, the project would feature Michael Bay as the director.
As per Variety, Goodman said, ”We are absolutely in talks right now, both on the television side and the earliest conversations right now on the film side. But it’s not a be-all, end-all for us.”
However, as per a report by Rock Paper Shotgun, Garry Newman received a DMCA takedown notice. This was for the games and other materials that were based on the meme. Bay’s Invisible Narratives, which operates Garry’s Mod, reportedly did the same. It is a vast source which the Skibidi Toilet creator made use of for all the assets used in these YouTube shorts.
The notice shared by Newman on his Discord channel stated, ”Significant revenue is being generated by unauthorized Skibidi Toilet Garry’s Mod games that are being advertised everywhere. There is absolutely no licensed Steam, Valve, Garry’s Mod content related to Skibidi Toilet.” Thus, it conveyed that Newman takes down these assets.
Even the creator of Skibidi Toilet, DaFuq!?Boom! expressed astonishment over the letter. He wrote on Discord, ”I did NOT strike Garry’s Mod and I’m trying to understand what else is written in the letter!”
This news made many believe that the Skibidi Toilet movie would face cancellation. However, Rock Paper Shotgun later revealed that the concerned authority dispatched the DMCA notice in 2023. In addition, all the matters between Michael Bay and Garry Newman have been resolved.
