Speculations regarding Malik Willis have been running wild for a long time, causing Tennessee Titans fans to wonder about a possible trade. Willis served as a backup QB for the Titans last term, with Will Levis occupying the starting role. With Tennessee recruiting another quarterback in the form of Mason Rudolph, the future of the 25-year-old athlete at the Nissan Stadium was thrown into doubt. So, what happened to Malik Willis, and has he been traded to another NFL team?
Here are all the available details regarding Malik Willis’ rumored transfer to the Green Bay Packers.
Did the Green Bay Packers acquire Titans QB Malik Willis?
Malik Willis has reportedly been traded to the Packers, ahead of the upcoming NFL season.
According to ESPN‘s Adam Schefter, the deal regarding Willis’ transfer has already been completed. The Green Bay Packers have seemingly acquired Malik Willis in exchange for a 2025 seventh-round draft pick who has been traded to the Titans. Consequently, Willis is now expected to serve as Jordan Love’s deputy in the forthcoming season.
Tennessee’s coach Brian Callahan had previously hinted at Malik Willis’ trade while addressing the NFL’s third quarterback rule revision. “It comes across like you get a free spot for a third quarterback. But it’s not. It’s a roster spot,” Callahan explained. “And it’s a real one and you got to carry them on your 53 to get that emergency quarterback.”
Meanwhile, the Packers gaffer Matt LaFleur had also stressed the importance of making improvements in his side’s quarterback area. “There were some really good moments and then there were some things we absolutely have to do better,” said LaFleur.
Insider sources of ESPN have claimed that Sean Clifford, a potential backup for Love, is likely to be offloaded. Consequently, Malik Willis will have to vie for the second quarterback spot with rookie Michael Pratt, provided the latter is not traded or released.
