What Did J. Michael Luttig Say About Donald Trump & Kamala Harris?

J. Michael Luttig, a former federal judge and conservative legal expert, has recently made waves with his comments about two major political figures: Donald Trump and Kamala Harris. His statements have sparked a lot of discussions and raised questions. So, what did Luttig actually say about Trump and Harris? Here are all the details.

Michael Luttig’s comments about Donald Trump

Retired federal judge J. Michael Luttig, a conservative put on the bench by President George H.W. Bush, has voiced strong opposition to Donald Trump’s return to the presidency. He described Trump as “singularly unfit.”

Michael Luttig, who advised Mike Pence to certify the 2020 election results against Trump’s wishes, now supports Kamala Harris in the upcoming election. He warns that Trump poses a serious threat to American democracy and believes that this election requires setting aside party differences to prevent Trump from regaining power. Luttig also highlights how Trump’s false claims about the 2020 election have damaged public trust in the democratic system, particularly the younger voters’ trust.

Michael Luttig releases statement endorsing Kamala Harris

Former federal judge J. Michael Luttig has publicly endorsed Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential race, marking his first time supporting a Democrat. In a statement shared by CNN, Luttig emphasized that Harris can uphold the values of American democracy.

He wrote, “In the presidential election of 2024 there is only one political party and one candidate for the presidency that can claim the mantle of defender and protector of America’s Democracy, the Constitution, and the Rule of Law. As a result, I will unhesitatingly vote for the Democratic Party’s candidate for the Presidency of the United States, Vice President of the United States, Kamala Harris.”

In recent years, Luttig has also expressed support for some decisions made by the Biden administration. For instance, he strongly endorsed the nomination of Ketanji Brown Jackson to serve as Associate Justice of the Supreme Court in 2022. The former judge even called out fellow Republicans who opposed her confirmation.
