What Happened to MGK’s Father? Murder Trial Explained

Machine Gun Kelly, also known as MGK, recently made a shocking revelation about his father’s tough childhood. The 34-year-old singer lost his father in 2020 when he was about to celebrate his own album Hotel Diablo’s one-year anniversary. Growing up, he was familiar with his father’s vulnerable side and acknowledged his hardships in a recent interview. So, what actually happened to MGK’s father in his childhood?

Here’s everything you need to know about MGK’s father’s involvement in his father’s murder trial.

What did MGK reveal about his father?

MGK revealed that his now-late father went through a trial alongside his grandmother at age 9 for the murder of his father.

Recently, MGK appeared in an episode of Bunnie Xo’s Dumb Blonde podcast that dropped on August 5. He shared some stories about his father’s tumultuous past and how he felt about it. He recalled that when his father was nine years old, he and his grandmother were both put on trial.

This happened as his grandfather dropped the gun, which resulted in a brutal accident, taking away his life. “The story that was always told to me was that their dad dropped the gun, and his head essentially blew off,” he added. Nevertheless, his father and grandmother were acquitted after the trial.

Following this traumatic incident, his father grew up fearing loud noises, and that used to not sit well with MGK. He used to criticize him for behaving this way, eventually doubting his manhood. Soon, he comprehended the trauma his father endured as a 9-year-old kid, and it all started making sense to him.

“In my situation with my father, he was so tormented from some of the most insane s— that I can imagine a kid can go through that he had to figure it out, but with almost every possible bad circumstance going against him, too,” he explained.

The “Home” singer previously opened up on how his father’s unhealed trauma affected him growing up in a documentary. Despite their rocky relationship, MGK appreciated his father for handling his law-breaking behavior during his teens. In a British GQ interview, he apologized to him for all the trouble caused.

He said, “The legal fees, the tens of thousands of dollars from the times I got arrested, the finding out your son missed a whole semester of high school because he was waking up and pretending to go but never going. I don’t know how he did it, and I get why it took us 25 years to finally get along.”
