Movie Releases on Indian Independence Day 2024

Indian Independence Day, celebrated on August 15, is not only a significant day for the nation but also a key date in the Indian film industry. Every year, filmmakers aim to release their movies to capitalize on the patriotic fervor and the extended holiday weekend. In 2024, the tradition continues with an exciting lineup of films hitting the big screens, offering action, drama, and entertainment. From the blockbuster Stree sequel to Thangalaan, this year’s Independence Day promises a cinematic treat for audiences across the country.

Khel Khel Mein

Khel Khel Mein is an eagerly anticipated comedy-drama, a remake of the 2016 Italian film Perfect Strangers by Paolo Genovese. Directed by Mudassar Aziz, the film boasts an ensemble cast, including Akshay Kumar, Ammy Virk, Taapsee Pannu, Vaani Kapoor, Fardeen Khan, Aditya Seal, and Pragya Jaiswal in the lead roles. Additionally, Chitrangada Singh will make her special appearance in the film.

Initially slated for September 6, the film’s release has been preponed to August 15, aligning with Indian Independence Day. The story revolves around seven friends who reunite after a long time and decide to share all their phone texts, emails, and messages for a day. As secrets unravel, their relationships are put to the test, leading to both humorous and dramatic complications.

Even before its theatrical debut, the film generated significant buzz, with reports confirming that Netflix had acquired digital streaming rights. The film is expected to be available on the platform approximately two months after its theatrical release.

Vedaa

Directed by Nikkhil Advani, Vedaa, starring John Abraham, is set to clash with other notable movies premiering on Independence Day. The film revolves around the compelling story of an ex-army officer who takes it upon himself to train an ordinary girl to combat caste discrimination and untouchability. The trailer hints at a powerful climax filled with intense violence and bloodshed, promising a gripping cinematic experience.

In anticipation of its release, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has awarded Vedaa a U/A certification. Additionally, CBFC has trimmed more than nine minutes of footage to meet the board’s guidelines. The film features an ensemble cast, including John Abraham, Sharvari, Tamannaah Bhatia, and Abhishek Banerjee, among others.

Stree 2

Stree 2 has generated significant excitement among audiences with its recently released trailer and songs. Directed by Amar Kaushik, Stree 2 brings back the beloved cast, including Rajkummar Rao, Shraddha Kapoor, Aparshakti Khurana, Abhishek Banerjee, and Pankaj Tripathi. In a surprising twist, Varun Dhawan, who starred in Bhediya, another Maddock Entertainment hit, will make a special appearance.

Stree 2 centers around a new malevolent spirit, Sar Kata Bhoot, who arrives in Chanderi town and begins abducting women. This supernatural threat leads to a series of comedic yet terrifying complications, blending horror and humor in a way that fans of the first film will undoubtedly appreciate.

Thangalaan

Thangalaan, directed by Pa. Ranjith, is a historical drama set against the backdrop of British India, particularly focusing on the Kolar Gold Field (KGF). The film explores the dark history of how the British colonizers extracted over 900 tons of gold from KGF and transported it to England.

Vikram takes on the lead role, supported by notable actors like Malavika Mohanan, Parvathy Thiruvothu, and Daniel Caltagirone. Although Thangalaan is yet to be released in theaters, Netflix has already secured the post-theater streaming rights. The film will be available on the platform in multiple languages, including Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi.

In addition to these Indian Independence Day releases, several other notable films will also hit theaters, promising a blockbuster day for Indian cinema. These include Double iSmart, Mr Bachchan, Andhagan, Bhairathi Ranagal, Hunt, Demonte Colony 2, Raghu Thatha, Aay, 35 – Chinna Katha Kaadu, Krishnam Pranaya Sakhi, and Nunakuzhi.
