What Happened to Jahmyr Gibbs? NFL Injury Update

Jahmyr Gibbs is a professional American football player currently serving as a running back for the Detroit Lions. The Lions selected him in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft. Unfortunately, during practice on Monday, Gibbs suffered an injury that forced him to leave early.

Let’s take a closer look at the injury update for Jahmyr Gibbs and when he might return to play.

What injury did Jahmyr Gibbs suffer from?

The Detroit Lions’ Jahmyr Gibbs suffered a hamstring injury during practice on Monday, according to the latest injury update.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter confirmed Gibbs’ injury in a post on X, stating, “Source: Lions RB Jahmyr Gibbs suffered a hamstring injury at today’s practice.” Gibbs, who shares the backfield with David Montgomery, is a crucial player for the Lions. While this injury is certainly a setback for both Gibbs and the team, there is optimism about his return given his talent and past performance.

In October last year, Gibbs also suffered a hamstring injury, which caused him to miss Weeks 5 and 6 of the 2023 NFL season. Despite this, his rookie season saw him accumulate 1,261 yards from scrimmage and score 11 touchdowns in 15 appearances.

When will Jahmyr Gibbs return for practice with the Detroit Lions?

Jahmyr Gibbs is likely to return for the regular season, potentially skipping the preseason games.

Following his hamstring injury on Monday, Gibbs left practice and did not return. The severity of the injury is still being evaluated, making his exact recovery timeline uncertain. However, it is likely that he will miss the upcoming preseason games against the Chiefs and the Steelers.

Once Gibbs has had sufficient rest and fully recovers, he should be back in top form for the regular season. Additionally, on Monday, his teammates, cornerbacks Terrion Arnold (upper body) and Ennis Rakestraw Jr., also exited practice early due to injuries.
