According to a Sportskeeda report, one of the many reasons was Ryan’s lack of interest in reprising his role as Hal Jordan. He’s been very vocal about the fact that he hated wearing a motion capture suit during the entire production.
As per ScreenRant, another major reason why Green Lantern 2 never materialized is the movie’s high production budget of $200 million. Despite this investment, the film only earned $220 million worldwide, far below the estimated $500 million needed to be considered a success. The underwhelming box office performance alone was enough to scrap any plans for a sequel.
It’s especially noteworthy that this film received a low 25% Tomatometer rating and 45% Audience Score on Rotten Tomatoes. Both fans and critics alike expressed their disappointment.
