What Happened to James Paxton? Baseball Injury Update

James Paxton is a Canadian professional baseball player currently playing for the Boston Red Sox. During a recent game against the Houston Astros, James Paxton appeared to suffer an injury while pitching, which led to his early exit from the game.

Let’s take a closer look at what exactly happened to James Paxton and when he might return to the field.

What injury is James Paxton suffering from?

During the game against the Astros, James Paxton suffered an injury in the form of a right calf strain while pitching.

Just five pitches into the game, Paxton went down on one knee, showing signs of pain from the calf strain. The medical staff then escorted him off the field as he limped away. According to the MLB website, after the game, Paxton said, “It just felt like I got kicked in the calf. Then I kind of turned around, took another step, and felt it again, and I was like, ‘Oh, it’s not good.'”

Paxton seemed to feel the pain immediately after the pitch as he stepped off the mound to cover the first-base bag. He soon went down on one knee, clutching his strained calf in pain. “I felt it pop,” he added.

When will James Paxton return to play baseball?

Currently, there is no confirmation on when James Paxton will return to the field for the Red Sox.

After acquiring Paxton, the Red Sox found the experienced pitcher they needed. However, following this incident, they will need to devise a new strategy until Paxton returns. According to the official MLB site, after the game, Red Sox manager Alex Cora said, “He’s going to have an MRI tomorrow. We’ll see where we’re at. Tough one. He’s been healthy the whole season, and then that happens.”

Additionally, when asked about his return, Paxton said, “I was really looking forward to helping this team go where they want to. Hopefully, I can come back here at some point before the end. We haven’t gotten any imaging yet, so we don’t know the severity, so we’ll see. It hurts.”
