Is 2024’s Labyrinth remake real or fake?
The 2024 Labyrinth remake is fake. This is because there is no confirmation of a Labyrinth remake.
A user, Vanilla 21s, recently posted a picture of the fake remake’s fan-made poster on Facebook. This poster featured Tom Hiddleston and claimed a release date of November 2024. Moreover, the user also came up with a synopsis that claimed Hailee Steinfeld would also appear in the film, playing Sarah. The synopsis also claimed that Hiddleston would essay the role of Jareth.
The fake Labyrinth synopsis reads:
“Get ready to embark on a mesmerizing journey through the Labyrinth with Tom Hiddleston as the enigmatic Jareth and Hailee Steinfeld as the determined Sarah. This remake of the classic film features all-new music crafted by the iconic singer-songwriter, Jonathan Davis of Korn, weaving a spellbinding soundtrack that adds a modern twist to this beloved tale of magic and adventure. The original Labyrinth movie was released in 1986. Directed by Jim Henson and executive produced by Star Wars creator George Lucas, the film starred Jennifer Connelly as Sarah and the late David Bowie as Jareth.
Will Tom Hiddleston and Hailee Steinfeld appear in a Labyrinth movie?
Tom Hiddleston and Hailee Steinfeld are not confirmed to appear in a Labyrinth remake movie or sequel.
News of a Labyrinth reboot/remake first surfaced on the web in 2016. This was after Variety reported that Sony closed a deal with the Jim Henson Company to co-produce the film via their TriStar division. This report also confirmed Guardians of the Galaxy co-scribe Nicole Perlman as the screenplay writer. The following year, another Variety report suggested that Don’t Breathe director Fede Alvarez was tapped to helm the movie. This was in addition to Alvarez co-writing the movie with Jay Basu.
Then in 2020, Scott Derickson was tapped to write and direct the movie, as per Deadline. This was after Alvarez stepped down from the project. (via Bloody Disgusting)
Later in 2021, Jennifer Connelly confirmed to Collider about discussions she had with producers on the Labyrinth sequel but was unsure of its status.
However, in February 2024, Brian Henson, chairman of the Jim Henson Company expressed excitement to ComicBook, about the Labyrinth sequel, but did not dish out any more details about it. Later in May 2024, Jim Henson Company CEO Lisa Henson told Paste that development on a sequel faced roadblocks because they “haven’t been able to get the script right”. Here, Lisa Henson also noted that they and TriStar were starting over the development process.
