Netflix’s Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba Ending Explained & Spoilers

Netflix’s Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba has finally arrived, bringing the much-anticipated sequel to the 2021 hit thriller Haseen Dillruba. Released on August 9, 2024, this romantic thriller continues the story of Rani Kashyap and Rishabh Saxena.

With Vikrant Massey and Taapsee Pannu reprising their roles and iconic new additions, fans haven’t been able to keep calm. As the film currently streams on Netflix, many viewers wonder what happens to Rishu and Rani in the end and what the story behind Abhimanyu’s past is.  Keep reading if you’re eager to know about the film’s ending.

What happens in Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba?

The film begins with Rani Saxena (Taapsee Pannu) starting a new chapter as a salon owner. Soon after, viewers are introduced to Sunny Kaushal as Abhimanyu, a compounder who is smitten by Rani and invites her on a movie date.

Before this budding romance can develop, the film reintroduces Rishabh Saxena, also known as Rishu, Rani’s supposedly deceased husband. Rishu, who faked his death by placing his dismembered hand around the murdered Neel (Rani’s illicit affair), crosses paths with Rani, creating palpable romantic tension. The police had been unable to prove Rani’s involvement in the murders but suspected that the events mirrored a plot from one of Rani’s favorite author Dinesh Pandit’s books.

In Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba, Rishu and Rani live separate lives but continue to secretly meet at various locations, including marketplaces and landmarks like the Taj Mahal. They plan to escape to Thailand to live openly. Meanwhile, Abhimanyu, who is still waiting for Rani after she missed their movie date, remains unaware of her past.

Enter Officer Mritunjya (Jimmy Shergill), aka Montu Chacha or Neel’s maternal uncle, who takes over the case with relentless determination. He is driven by a desire for vengeance and understands Rishu’s motives.

As Rani and Rishu’s plans are thwarted, Rani marries Abhimanyu to divert suspicion. Despite this, Rishu continues to attempt secret meetings. Rani and Abhimanyu’s married life parallels Rani’s previous relationship with Rishu. On their wedding night, Rani even mentions Dinesh Pandit, revealing that even Rishu was unfamiliar with the author until he met her.

One day, after catching Rishu with his flatmate Poonam, Rani drinks heavily and confesses her infidelity to Abhimanyu. The next morning, Abhimanyu demands to meet Rishu. Their meeting is fraught with hostility, but Abhimanyu agrees to help Rishu and Rani escape to Thailand.

Does Rishu & Rani end up together?

Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba then delves into back-to-back thrilling sequences. Rishu is held captive at Abhimanyu’s clinic, where he learns about Abhimanyu’s dark past. Abhimanyu reveals that he loved Rani from the moment he saw her and that both men have committed murders for those they love. Abhimanyu had previously killed his uncle’s family after his uncle cheated on his father.

Rani, alarmed, goes to the police station and confesses to Montu Chacha that Rishu is alive. She is severely beaten, prompting Rishu to agree to surrender under one condition: he wants to see her at a railway bridge.

On the day of the meeting, Rishu finally encounters Rani, but Abhimanyu, now in a police uniform, threatens them. During the confrontation, all three fall into the crocodile-infested water. Believing them to be dead, the case is closed. Six months later, Rani and Abhimanyu are seen living a peaceful life in the hills. Rani teaches at a school, and Abhimanyu works as a compounder. Meanwhile, Rishu is presumed lost in the water.

Will there be Haseen Dillruba 3?

During a class, Rani receives a notebook with a couplet from Pandit’s book, a nod to her past communication with Rishu. Simultaneously, Montu Chacha receives a Dinesh Pandit book from an anonymous sender. The book outlines events similar to those in the film, including the accusations and the crocodile incident. It also contains an inscription directing Montu Chacha to a meeting spot.

Rani invites Abhimanyu to this spot and accuses him of killing Rishu. Montu Chacha arrives with the police, but Rani leaps off a cliff, declaring that even Abhimanyu cannot capture her. The police do not find Rani’s body, and the film concludes with Rani reuniting with Rishu. Abhimanyu confirms to Montu Chacha that he is indeed Dinesh Pandit’s son.

The ending raises questions about the possibility of Haseen Dillruba 3. Will Rishu and Rani finally find peace? What is Abhimanyu’s true past? The answers await in potential future sequels.
