Elon Musk has unleashed a war against some of the biggest companies in the world. The owner of X (formerly Twitter), Musk is constantly urging other social media platforms like X through his tweets to sue advertisers following a recent allegation he placed on several firms like Mars, Unilever, CVS Health, etc. This update has swirled a storm on the internet, with many people trying to pin down the reason behind Musk’s decision.
So, let’s delve deep into why Musk filed a lawsuit against advertisers.
Why Elon Musk is suing advertisers, Unilever, and Mars?
Elon Musk has accused firms like Unilever and Mars of forming an alliance and conspiring a boycott against X. Making the announcement about filing a lawsuit on X, Musk wrote, “We tried being nice for 2 years and got nothing but empty words. Now, it is war.”
The Tesla CEO shared another post on X urging other companies to take the same step as him and wrote, “I strongly encourage any company who has been systematically boycotted by advertisers to file a lawsuit. There may also be criminal liability via the RICO Act.” According to The Guardian, the lawsuit states that these advertisers held back advertising worth “billions of dollars” from X when Musk took over the platform in 2022.
In a clip posted by X CEO Linda Yaccarino, she says, “People are hurt when the marketplace of ideas is constricted. No small group of people should monopolize what gets monetized.” She wrote in an article on X, “The consequence – perhaps the intent – of this boycott was to seek to deprive X’s users, be they sports fans, gamers, journalists, activists, parents or political and corporate leaders, of the Global Town Square. This behavior is a stain on a great industry, and cannot be allowed to continue.”
