In the previous episode, Hu-Yeong took care of Hong-Ju, who had a minor accident. However, he became annoyed when she didn’t understand his feelings for her. After the former couple quarreled, Hu-Yeong comforted Hong-Ju and had their first kiss.

Serendipity’s Embrace episode 5 begins with a flashback when high school student Hu-Yeong planned to confess his feelings to Hong-Ju. However, a call from his mother about moving to the United States made him cancel his plans. The flashback ends, and the episode returns to the moment they share their first kiss.

Serendipity’s Embrace episode 5 further shows Hong-Ju pushing Hu-Yeong after realizing their kiss. She scolds him for joking around like this. Hu-Yeong replies, “I’ve never joked around, neither now nor ten years ago. I liked you then, and I like you now.” She argues that they are just friends, and he surprises her, stating that friends don’t kiss. Before leaving, Hu-Yeong requests Hong-Ju to think about their relationship status carefully.

Later, Hu-Yeong’s uncle tries to convince him to return to the US, hinting at his mother’s displeasure with Hu-Yeong’s current decision. Meanwhile, Hong-Ju is at her friend Sang-Pil’s restaurant when the latter informs her that he has invited Hu-Yeong. She becomes annoyed because she is trying to avoid him, so she leaves before he arrives at the place. Meanwhile, her ex, Jun-Oh, is drunk and heartbroken as he reads Hong-Ju’s old letters. Crying, he wonders why she has changed.

The next morning, Sang-Pil forces Hong-Ju to join him and Hu-Yeong for a day out. When she sees Hu-Yeong waiting near his car, she says no. Finally, Sang-Pil’s trick works, and Hong-Ju accompanies them. After an awkward car ride, Hong-Ju asks Hu-Yeong to forget their kiss and his confession. But he refuses and showers her with more flattering compliments, leaving Hong-Ju to behave awkwardly.

The group reaches their destination, where Hong-Ju gets a call from her boss. She finds out that she has to spend a month working on a project with her ex-boyfriend.
