Manga fans, especially My Hero Academia enthusiasts, are wondering if MHA is over or if more chapters are scheduled to come out. Since bursting onto the scene in 2014, My Hero Academia has ignited a global phenomenon with its story, action, and characters. Critics and fans alike have hailed it as a masterpiece. Moreover, the MHA manga has also become a great commercial success and a best-seller, selling at least over 100 million copies.
So is My Hero Academia bringing its epic storytelling to a close? Will fans get to experience more MHA chapters in the coming future? Here are your answers.
Is the My Hero Academia Manga ending?
Yes, the My Hero Academia manga is ending.
MHA Chapter 430 will be released on August 5, 2024. It will be a part of the combined issue of 36/37 of Weekly Shonen Jump, the official MHA account announced on X (formerly Twitter) in June 2024.
The news came after a two-week publishing break. Kohei Horikoshi, the creator of MHA, took to social media to apologize to fans for the break. He also talked about the five final chapters of My Hero Academia and thanked fans for reading the manga.
Furthermore, he also hinted that he would be working on something in the future by saying “Let’s meet again in Jump!” However, he did not reveal if it was a My Hero Academia sequel or another project, as per GamesRadar+.
Will more My Hero Academia chapters come out after Chapter 430?
No more My Hero Academia chapters will come out after Chapter 430 as the series is ending.
According to Kohei Horikoshi, there are also currently no plans for more MHA stories. He confirmed this in a July 2024 interview with Viz Media. Horikoshi revealed he had written detailed backstories for Izuku Midoriya’s One For All predecessors. However, he intentionally left them out of the manga’s main storyline.
Further, Horikoshi confirmed that he will not be exploring the pasts of specific characters. Drawing inspiration from Terminator 2, he has made a conscious choice to exclude these narratives from future developments.
He said, “In Terminator 2, John Connor becomes a leader in the future, and Schwarzenegger’s character is sent from that future world. But there aren’t many depictions of the future itself. Because the future isn’t depicted in detail, the viewers’ imaginations expand, and I thought that was really great. So, I wanted to create something like Terminator 2.”
Despite this, a past Reddit thread revealed that Horikoshi had plans to write a short backstory focused on My Hero Academia antagonist Lady Nagant, her time as a hero, and troubled dealings with the HSPC. (via Comicbook)
However, Horikoshi’s statements in the aforementioned Viz Media interview indicate that he has seemingly changed his mind about doing this story.
