The ongoing romantic Chinese drama, The Best Day of My Life, featuring Jiang Zhinan and Zhang Jiongmin in the lead roles, released episode 9 on July 28, 2024. As seen in the official trailer, the drama tells the story of Xu Mu (Jiang Zhinan), who gets into a contractual relationship with her high school crush after they reunite years later. The installment focuses on Xie Shi (Zhang Jiongmin) getting jealous of Xu Mu and Mr. Zhang’s closeness.
In this episode, Xu Mu shows Zhang Yao around the event venue. She tries her best to make him feel comfortable. Xie Shi finds out that Zhang Yao is the person Xu Mu went to have dinner with. Zhang tries to ask Xu Mu out but their conversation is interrupted by Xie Shi and her other colleagues. Zhang seems to be disheartened when he comes to know that Xu Mu and Xie Shi are dating.

When Xie Shi notices the strange look on Zhang’s face, he feels amused. Afterwards Xu Mu and Xie Shi go out to shop. It is quite evident that Xie Shi has started to enjoy Xu Mu’s company. Meanwhile, Nian Nian goes to Shen Yi’s office to pick him up for a dinner date. When she sees his boss giving him a hard time and humiliating him in front of the whole office, she takes his side and gets into an argument with the former. However, it was revealed that Shen Yi is the son of the company’s chairman.
The next day at the press conference, Mr. Zhang names a special friend as his muse behind his live painting. He expresses his gratitude and reveals that this person brought joy to his dull life. Although, he does not take Xu Mu’s name, it is clear that he is hinting at Xu Mu. After the conference, he once again musters up courage to ask Xu Mu out to dinner and she accepts. But Xie Shi once again interrupts their conversation. He doesn’t want to leave the two alone. He invites them to a dinner party hosted by the company.
Why did Zhang Jiongmin get jealous?
At the dinner, Zhang overhears Xu Mu and Xie Shi talking. He finally understands that their relationship is not real and is only a deal. Further into the episode, Xu Mu and Xie Shi help Zhang Yao set up his gallery. After Xu Mu leaves, Zhang Yao directly asks Xie Shi about his relationship with Xu Mu. He reveals that he knows about their contract and admits to having feelings for Xu Mu.
Furthermore, he wants to ask her out before she starts dating someone else or develops feelings for Xie Shi. After returning home, Zhang Yao words keep ringing in Xie Shi’s ears. But he doesn’t mention any of these to Xu Mu. Instead, like a true partner, he prepares meal for her and puts her to sleep. Xu Mu watches him admiringly as he cooks.
What happens in The Best Day of My Life episode 9’s ending?
The next morning, Xu Mu runs into Qiao Nan, Shen Yi’s cousin at the cafeteria. She overhears her colleagues saying that Xie Shi grew up with Qiao Nan and the two have similar backgrounds. They are ex-lovers and also spent time together when they lived abroad. However, her insecurity takes over. It gets only worse when one of her colleagues gets inside her head, making her feel unconfident.
After returning home, she receives a panicked phone call from Qiao Nan who asks her put Xie Shi on the line. Afterwards, Xie Shi looks worried and he rushes out to visit her. Xu Mu eventually goes to bed. She wakes up the next morning and Xie Shi still hasn’t returned.
