Martin’s Fire & Blood, showcasing Rhaenyra’s efforts to recruit new dragon riders. As the plot thickens, viewers are eager to understand the motives and implications behind Aemond’s actions. Fans are also wondering about the new dragon riders in the episode.

Here’s everything that happens at the end of House of the Dragon Season 2 Episode 7.

What happens at the end of House of the Dragon Season 2 Episode 7?

In House of the Dragon Season 2 Episode 7, having been chosen by Seasmooke, Addam of Hull swears fealty to Rhaenyra. Acting on Mysaria’s advice, Rhaenyra subsequently recruits several individuals from King’s Landing and Dragonstone, including Hugh and Ulf, in the hopes of finding prospective Dragonriders for Vermithor and Silverwing. These people were all born out of wedlock but have Targaryen blood in their veins.

Rhaenyra proceeds with the plan despite objections from Jace, who points out the circumstances around his own birth and how her decision can impact his claim to the throne after her death. Fans of the books might recognize Jace’s words as foreshadowing events to come.

In the Riverlands, Oscar Tully becomes the the new lord of Riverrun and forces Daemon to execute Willem Blackwood in exchange for the support of the Riverlords. Toward the end of the episode, Hugh, Ulf, and the rest of the Dragonseeds face Vermithor. Most of them are burned to death and eaten.

Attempting to protect another volunteer, Hugh musters the courage to face the Bronze Fury. Hugh Hammer ultimately claims Vermithor. Meanwhile, Ulf escapes deep into the caverns and ends up in Silverwing’s lair. After a terrifying encounter, Ulf claims Silverwing and rides off on him.

Why Aemond turned back in House of the Dragon Season 2 Episode 7?

During a Small Council meeting, alarms go off that a dragon has been sighted in the skies of King’s Landing. As Aemond comes out and spots the dragon, it is safe to presume that he knows exactly which dragon it is. He gives chase on Vhagar and realizes that Silverwing is heading toward Dragonstone.

Aemond may have deduced that the Blacks have found new riders for three unclaimed adult dragons on Dragonstone. He could have even spotted Rhaenyra standing with Syrax and Vermithor. Either way, he decides to turn back and flee. Even though Vhagar may be the oldest and a battle-hardened dragon, Aemond knows it can’t take on the combined might of Vermithor, Silverwing, and Syrax.

Who are the new dragon riders in House of the Dragon Season 2 Episode 7?

By the episode’s end, the Blacks have three new dragon riders: Addam of Hull, Hugh, and Ulf.

Addam of Hull is Corlys’ son born out of wedlock and Alyn of Hull’s brother. In the book, their mother, Marilda of Hull, is described as a trader and captain, but in the show, she is portrayed as a shipwright. The Velaryons, even though they are from Valyria like the Targaryens, were never the dragonlords. In Martin’s books, the Targaryens and Velaryons regularly inter-marry, but that is a bit complicated in the show. So, it’s possible that Addam gained his ability to be a dragonrider from his mother’s side. Addam of Hull bonded with Seasmoke.

In House of the Dragon Season 2 Episode 7, Hugh heavily implies to his wife that he is the son of Saera Targaryen, a daughter of King Jaehaerys I and Queen Alysanne. Despite who she was, Saera worked in a pleasure house in King’s Landing. Given the relationship she shared with her father in the book, it’s incredibly ironic that her son, Hugh Hammer, has claimed Vermithor, who used to be Jaehaerys I’s dragon before his passing. In the book, Hugh is a blacksmith’s son born out of wedlock on Dragonstone.

Ulf claims to be Targaryen’s son born out of wedlock, making him the half-brother of Viserys I and Daemon. In the book, he hails from Dragonstone, and his parentage is unknown. In the episode, he falls into the lair of Silverwing but ultimately survives and becomes a dragonrider.
