The ongoing romantic Chinese drama The Best Day of My Life, featuring Jiang Zhinan and Zhang Jiongmin in the lead roles, released its first set of episodes on July 25, 2024. As seen in the official trailer, the drama tells the story of Xu Mu (Jiang Zhinan), who runs into her high school crush after many years. Episode four of this series focuses on Xie Shi (Zhang Jiongmin) asking Xu Mu to get into a contractual relationship with him.
In this episode, Xie Shi picks up Xu Mu to go to his family dinner together. Xu Mu is nervous as this is her first time meeting someone’s parents. At the party, Xu Mu runs into someone she went on a blind date with. Xu Mu lies to him, saying she has been dating Xie Shi for over a year. She meets Xie Shi’s family and gets along with them well. Even his family is surprised to see him falling for someone so soon.

But problems arise when Chen Xi spills the beans about Xu Mu going on a blind fate just a month ago in front of Xie Shi’s family. Before the situation could turn more complicated, Xie Shi comes to Xu Mu’s rescue. He reveals that it was because he failed to give her a sense of security. But as they spent time apart, they realized their love for one another. Furthermore, he mentions how he fell in love with her at first sight.
After getting out of the party, they decide to take a stroll on the beach. Xie Shi starts to open up to her about his personal life and also his family. He happens to overhear Xu Mu’s conversation with her mother over a phone call. When he hears her mother pressuring her to go on dates, he comes up with a plan. As he doesn’t have time to start a relationship, he suggests that they sign a relationship contract. That way, they will be able to avoid being pressured. But the contract will come to an end once one of them falls for someone else. Xu Mu agrees to it.

The next day, Xie Shi talks to Xu Mu’s mother over a video call. Her mother takes a liking to him. After Xie Shi drives Xu Mu home from the office, she gets into an argument with her roommate. One of her roommates lets her drunk friends inside Xu Mu’s room and makes it uninhabitable. When Xu Mu confronts her, she starts arguing with her. The situation escalates when Xu Mu’s mother gives her a surprise visit.
The impolite roommate starts being disrespectful towards Xu Mu’s mother and pushes her. When Xie Shi hears the fight over the phone call, he rushes to the apartment and saves Xu Mu’s mother before she falls and gets seriously injured. Then, he takes Xu Mu and her mother to his house for the time being.

Mrs. Xu is beyond impressed with Xie Shi. She can not wait to go back home and gush about him in front of her husband. She keeps saying how she would be relieved if Xu Mu stayed with Xie Shi.
When he sees Xu Mu struggle to find a new place, he suggests she move in with him as his new flatmate. Furthermore, she won’t have to pay rent and can pay any amount she wants. Xu Mu agrees, but she is also suspicious of him being nice towards her. Meanwhile, rumors about their alleged relationship start to circulate in the office.
