Netflix’s live-action adaptation of One Piece has ignited a fervent fanbase, exceeding expectations and generating significant anticipation for the upcoming Season 2. A key element of the sequel is the introduction of the beloved protagonist character. Amidst the excitement, Xolo Mariduena, a rising Hollywood star, has emerged as a prominent fan-cast choice for the Portgas D. Ace role. While speculation surrounding his involvement is high, official confirmation remains elusive.
Here are all the available details regarding the Blue Beetle star’s speculated inclusion in the cast for One Piece Season 2.
Has Xolo Mariduena been cast as Ace for Netflix’s One Piece Season 2?
At the time of writing, Netflix has not officially announced Xolo Mariduena’s casting as Ace in One Piece Season 2.
Despite a lack of confirmation, the 23-year-old actor has long been theorized to take the mantle of the Pirate King’s son. Such rumors were fueled further after Mariduena himself took the time out to address them. As the co-host of The Lone Lobos podcast, the Cobra Kai mainstay was questioned about his potential appearance in One Piece Season 2 during a TikTok live interaction. Xolo Mariduena responded cryptically, neither denying nor affirming his involvement in the project as Ace.
He conveyed that he has yet to land the role, as per ComicBook. Xolo Mariduena further expressed his excitement about possibly playing Ace, stating, “It’s a dream, but at the same time, it has to be right. I’ve got to audition for it. I’ve got to go the same route as everyone else. Unless they’re like, ‘Hey, this guy here is so perfect’.”
Season two is presently going through the filming process. Netflix confirmed earlier this month that the stars are stationed in South Africa to shoot their scenes. With the sequel currently in the production phase, it is not expected to be released before 2025.
