The fight happened during the filming of the BET reality TV series College Hill: Celebrity Edition Season 2. An argument broke out between Rose and Hernandez on racial identity inside a class at Alabama State University, before the situation devolved into a physical altercation. BET decided not to broadcast the footage, but it appears that TMZ found it and released it. Since then, it has been widely shared on social media.

In the video, Rose can be seen attacking Hernandez before being pushed onto a glass pane as she continues to throw punches. At least five people ultimately stepped in and broke up the fight.

Footage from the series offers some context on what led to the violent confrontation. As seen in a clip posted on X (formerly Twitter), Hernandez states, “I identify myself and let you know who that is. Your problem is that you really wanna be a white girl.” The argument quickly escalates before turning physical.

Hernandez is from Puerto Rico and identifies as Afro-Latina, whereas Rose belongs to the Black Cape Verdean and Scottish ancestry.

In a statement to TMZ, BET reaffirmed its decision not to release the footage of the Amber Rose vs Joseline Hernandez fight by saying, “We remain unwavering in our decision not to air the footage, as our network does not condone violence in any form.” The statement continued, “Furthermore, we hold the HBCU experience in the highest regard, recognizing its vital role in fostering Black excellence and pride within our community. In alignment with these values, we remain resolute in our decision to omit the scene.”

During an appearance on Drink Champs, Hernandez revealed that the fight happened during a class on literature and stated that she put someone’s head “through a glass.”
