Deadpool & Wolverine: Why Is It R-Rated? Is It Safe for Kids to Watch?

Deadpool & WolverineĀ is an upcoming Marvel Studios film and the first of the Deadpool franchise to be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, given the nature of previous Deadpool films, parents of superhero fanatics are concerned about whether Deadpool & Wolverine is appropriate for children. Letā€™s take a look at Deadpool and Wolverineā€™s age rating and why the film is R-rated.

Why is Deadpool & Wolverine rated R?

Deadpool & Wolverine received an R-rating due to the coarse language, sexual references, and graphic violence in the film.

If you are familiar with the first two Deadpool movies, you will understand what type of content gives this film an R-rating. Even though it is now part of the family-friendly MCU, Disney allowed the movie to keep an R-rating. This makes Deadpool & Wolverine the first-ever R-rated MCU film.

The reason for this rating comes from the sexual references and humor, graphic violence and gore themes. Additionally, all the F-bombs dropped throughout the film ensure that itā€™s not suitable for kids. Fight sequences that involve the use of swords and guns, or even Wolverineā€™s claws, include very graphic blood splatters. As per the NY Post, the film has over 100 F-bombs. This is more than either of the two past films. Additionally, the sexual references and gestures in the movie also contribute to the R-rating of the film. Deadpoolā€™s humor, especially, contains a high frequency of sexual metaphors throughout.

Is Deadpool & Wolverine safe for children to watch?

No, Deadpool & Wolverine is R-rated and is not safe to watch for kids.

Even though the film is part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it is R-rated. In the United States, children under the age of 17 are required to be accompanied by a parent/guardian over the age of either 21 or 25, depending on the rules and policies of the respective cinema.
