Is NewJeans Going on a Break? ADOR statement explained

ADOR, the music label of NewJeans, shared a new statement revealing the K-pop girl group will go on a short break or “well-deserved rest.” The statement also dived deeper into the plagiarism allegations that the band’s new song, “Bubblegum,” faced in recent times.

NewJeans debuted in 2022 with the viral hit track “Attention.” Since then, the group has released two extended plays and three single albums. The Billboard Award-winning girl group returned to the music scene in 2024 with two single albums, How Sweet and Supernatural.

After the successful releases, NewJeans held their fan meeting at Tokyo Dome on June 26 and 27. At the fan meeting, they performed over 16 songs and showed the members’ solo talents in six individual performances.

What did ADOR say about NewJeans’ break?

Per NewJeans’ label, ADOR, the K-pop rookie group will take a short break following their recent promotional period. They stated, “The NewJeans members have worked their very hardest to put on fantastic performances and reach new heights despite everything that’s happened.”

“For that reason, they’ll be taking a well-deserved rest, after which they’ll be back to getting ready for their next exciting project for their fans. But don’t worry-we’ll be giving you plenty of surprising content and updates in the meantime, so be on the lookout for that and keep sending your love,” the statement continued.

ADOR’s new statement also addressed the plagiarism allegations that NewJeans faced for the song “Bubblegum.” The label clarified that they have done the music analysis between the Shakatak song and “Bubblegum” from two renowned musicologists from overseas. The statement also went into detail about both the songs’ chord progressions and their few similarities.

“‘Bubble Gum’ and ‘Easier Said Than Done’ differ in their chord progressions (the former being D Major9 x2 – C# minor7 – F# minor7), their bpm, and in their overall feeling and movement,” ADOR stated. “We strongly objected to the claims brought before us for a number of reasons. The label has also requested the claimant to provide a credible analysis if they wished to pursue the issue further.”

With the ongoing conflict between HYBE and its sub-label ADOR, fans have mixed opinions about NewJeans’ resting period. While many believe a break between comebacks is necessary for the members’ well-being, others say a short hiatus could cause more uncertainty among fans amidst the companies’ legal proceedings.
