Is Cobra Kai over? Fans of the Karate Kid spinoff series were taken aback when Netflix released only 5 episodes as part of Season 6. While it has been confirmed that there will not be a Season 7, many are curious about why the latest installment is so short.
Here is all the information you need about the show’s future.
Has Cobra Kai Season 6 ended with just 5 episodes?
No, Cobra Kai Season 6 is not over, and there will be more episodes.
The first 5 episodes of Cobra Kai Season 6 came out on July 18, 2024. According to The Direct, there will be 10 more episodes of the hit Netflix series. These episodes will be released in two parts. Episodes 6-10 of the final season will drop in mid-November 2024, while episodes 11-15 will air in 2025. Presently, there is no clear date for the release of Part 3.
Why has Netflix launched only 5 episodes for Cobra Kai Season 6?
Series co-creator Hayden Schlossberg discussed the reason behind the limited episode release for Season 6 with Radio Times. He claimed that the standard ten-episode format would be insufficient to comprehensively tell the story. (via The Direct)
He said, “And when we talked to Netflix, we felt like one season – 10 episodes – is not going to be enough to finish this up. [But] it’s a lot to make 20 episodes. And we didn’t want to wait too long in terms of how they get released and how they all go out. And so 15 became a good number, like a supersize season, to pay off all these characters that we’ve set up.”
Furthermore, he explained the rationale behind the three-part format. Schlossberg noted that their writing process already revolved around five-episode character arcs for each season. This familiarity with the five-episode arc allowed them to craft a cohesive narrative for the longer format.
Schlossberg concluded by emphasizing the audience’s benefit. He expressed approval for the five-episode format, citing its suitability for binge-watching. Additionally, he acknowledged the impracticality of releasing all 15 episodes simultaneously.
Moreover, A new installment in the Karate Kid franchise, featuring the return of Ralph Macchio and Jackie Chan, was announced following the completion of the television series Cobra Kai. The theatrical release of this film is scheduled for May 30, 2025.
