Lee Hyeri has been confirmed to lead a new webtoon-based K-drama, Friendly Rivalry (Friendly Competition). After a three-year hiatus, the South Korean actress will return to the K-drama scene. She will play Yoo Jae-Yi, a wealthy and good-looking student with a high IQ.
Moreover, Jae-Yi is cunning and aware of her privileged background. She knows how to use her superiority in the Chaehwa Girls High School. While many envy her, she befriends a new student, Woo Seul-Ki. The latter struggles to get along with her schoolmates until Jae-Yi approaches her. Things get complicated in the latter’s life when she finds the transfer student super interesting. Unknowingly, their friendship turns into an obsession.

Lee Hyeri has joined the cast of the K-drama Friendly Rivalry, according to a Herald Pop report. The psychological drama is based on a webtoon by writer Song Chae-Yoon. It tells the story of two friends Jae-Yi and Seul-Ki, who decide to have a healthy competition in the high school. They want to enroll in the top medical university. However, the spirit of the competition becomes intense when Jae-Yi’s obsession takes over.
Hyeri will play the role of Jae-Yi while the makers have yet to reveal the actor playing Seul-Ki. Meanwhile, the series will also mark the actress’ return to K-dramas after three years. She was last seen in the 2022 drama, May I Help You. She is well-known for her roles in My Roommate is Gumiho, Moonshine, Reply 1988, and Hyde, Jekyll, Me. This year, Hyeri appeared in the Korean movie, Victory, which was released on July 12, 2024. It is a story of teenage friendship between two friends who want to start their own cheerleading team.
Meanwhile, her upcoming drama, Friendly Rivalry, will premiere in 2025 on TVing. The full cast and release date are yet to be announced. Stay tuned for more updates.
