Homicide: Los Angeles plunges viewers into the dark underbelly of Los Angeles, dissecting five notorious murder cases. In the first episode, the series shines a harsh light on Phil Spector, the once-celebrated music producer whose legacy crumbled after he was convicted for the 2003 murder of actress Lana Clarkson.
The second episode focuses on the 1988 twin murder case of popular race car driver Mickey Thompson and his wife. They were shot by two gunmen outside their home. Years later, Mickey Thompson’s business partner Michael Goodwin was convicted for having arranged the killing.
Further, the series delves into the twisted murder case of Teresa Broudreaux. A five-month pregnant Broudreaux was killed in 1980 when she was cooling off at a beach after a fight with her husband, Ronnie Fematt. Although Fematt became a possible suspect at the time, former convict Robert Yniguez was found guilty of the crime decades later with the help of DNA testing.
In another episode, actor-turned-film-executive Gavin Smith’s murder case is explored, who was killed in 2012. The killer was revealed to be John Creech, an ex-convict and husband of one of Smith’s girlfriends.
Finally, the series explores the killing of a former California senator’s daughter, Jana Koklich, who was first reported missing by her husband Bruce Koklich. Although Jana’s body was never found, Bruce Koklich was convicted of the crime by a jury.
