Sweet Home Webtoon Ending Explained

The popular apocalyptic thriller K-drama, Sweet Home, starring Song Kang is an adaptation of the webtoon of the same name. The comic is written by Kim Carnby and illustrated by Hwang Young-Chan. It chronicles the story of a troubled teenage boy named, Cha Hyun-Soo, who finds himself stuck in an apartment called, Green Home, amidst a horrifying apocalyptic event. He and the other residents have to fight for their survival.

The Korean drama based on the webtoon, will air its highly anticipated season 3 globally on Netflix on Friday, July 19, 2024. It is the final season of the series. It stars Song Kang, Lee Si-Young, Go Min-Si, Lee Do-Hyun and Jung Jin-Young. Ahead of the show’s premiere, fans have been curious to learn whether the original Sweet Home webtoon has ended or is still ongoing.

Sweet Home webtoon ending: Has it ended?

The Sweet Home webtoon was first published on October 12, 2017, in Naver Webtoon. It ended on July 2, 2020. It has 140 chapters in total, along with 1 prologue. The central characters of the webtoon include Cha Hyun-Soo, Yoon Ji-Soo, Lee Eun-Hyuk, Pyeon Sang-Wook and Lee Eun-Hyuk.

It begins with Hyun-Soo learning that both of his parents have passed away. He then moves into the Green Home apartment, where he stays in room 1410 alone. Cha Hyun-Soo is a troubled 18-year-old who wants to end his life. However, he has to put his plan on hold as a monster outbreak engulfs the entire world. He realizes that humans are turning into evil creatures that are a massive threat to human beings.

As the story of the Sweet Home webtoon unfolds, Hyun-Soo runs into a monster in Green Home. It knocks him unconscious. After waking up on the ground floor, he manages to reject his deep dark desires that want to transform him into a monster. However, he ends up becoming a half-monster.

Later on in the comic, Hyun-Soo and another half-monster, Jo Yi-Hyun, start searching for the monsters in the building. They arrive at the room where another half-monster, Myung-Sook, has transformed into a cocoon. Hyun-Soo tries to stop Yi-Hun but he ends up lighting the cocoon on fire. This leads all the monsters to them.

While the rest of the residents escape the Green Home, only Hyun-Soo, Ji-Soo, Sang-Woo, Eun-Hyuk and Yi-Hyun remain in the building. Hyun-Soo has to give in to his inner demons and become his favorite character, a powerful monster so that he can fight Jeong-Seop, who is in his strongest monster form. With his massive powers, Hyu-Soo easily knocks the latter down and wins the fight.

How does Sweet Home webtoon end?

Towards the end of the webtoon, Ji Soo tries to bring Hyun-Soo back to his human form but fails. After sending everyone away from the building, Eun-Hyuk also decides to give in to his dark desires to become a monster. He wants to save Hyun-Soo’s life. But instead, he turns into a messy and tangled mass, that sucks Hyun Soo in.

At the end of the Sweet Home webtoon, two cocoons are seen after a rainfall. Hyun-Soo hatches out of one of these cocoons. Then, he ends up finding Ji-Soo’s phone and the guitar track that meant a lot to him. He breaks down in tears.

In the epilogue of the webtoon, there is a post-apocalyptic world. South Korea is completely covered in snow. While coming out of a military camp, Ji-Soo sees Hyun-Soo. He is barefoot and has a thin piece of cloth on his body. Ji-Soo, along with the other residents at the military camp rush out to meet Hyun-Soo. The webtoon ends with Hyun-Soo finding a new life, family and purpose.
