In December 2019, rapper Juice WRLD suffered a seizure after his private jet landed at Chicago airport. Reports suggested that after authorities took him to the hospital, he was declared dead. Police sent the rapper’s body for an autopsy and discovered that the musician died because of a drug overdose. HBO documentary Juice WRLD: Into the Abyss explores the life and death of the rapper, telling viewers about his anxiety-filled life. The documentary is available to stream on HBO’s streaming platform, Max.

According to Vulture, Juice WRLD suffered an unknown medical emergency shortly after landing at the Midway Airport in Chicago. The publication reported that the rapper suffered a seizure and a heart attack. Meanwhile, Chicago Police stated that the musician went into convulsions when they started searching his private jet. During the search, police found guns and drugs on his jet. The New York Times reported law enforcement officials administered Narcan to the rapper and briefly revived him. However, a couple of hours later, Juice WRLD breathed his last at the Advocate Christ Medical Center, Illinois.

After his death, authorities sent Juice WRLD’s body for an autopsy and found lethal drugs in his system. Citing the report, The New York Times stated that the rapper died because of an accidental overdose of oxycodone and codeine.

Juice WRLD’s cause of death explained

As mentioned above, the autopsy report determined that Juice WRLD’s cause of death was an overdose of oxycodone and codeine. Mayo Clinic writes that oxycodone is prescribed for pain severe enough to require opioid treatment. However, patients take this medicine only when other pain relievers don’t work. On the other hand, codeine is quite similar to oxycodone and is given in combination with other medicines.

Juice WRLD had been quite vocal about his use of drugs, including marijuana and Xanax. Speaking to The New York Times in 2018, the musician revealed that he had stopped taking Xanax. Moreover, he revealed his decision to curtail his usage of drugs. He said, “I smoke weed, and every now and then I slip up and do something that’s poor judgment. I have a lot going for me, I recognize it’s a lot of big things, a lot of big looks. I want to be there, and you don’t have to overdose to not be there.”
