Similar to his beau, the 77-year-old artist is also a recognizable name in show business. He was part of a band named Breakfast Club, formulated by his brother and Gilroy himself. Interestingly, their musical group also featured a pre-fame Madonna, who was in charge of the drums. In a 1984 interview with Rolling Stone, Gilroy revealed that he and Madonna had dated each other for a short period.

The Gilroy brothers enjoyed brief success with their band, with their single Right on Track even peaking at number 7 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, as per Today.

Many believed that the singer was actually Shelley Duvall’s husband. However, the couple never legally formalized their relationship.

Having lived in Los Angeles till 1994, the pair eventually relocated to a one-story house in Texas after Duvall’s home was decimated in an earthquake. According to The New York Times, Gilroy and his beloved decorated their residence with old framed photographs of the couple.

The Breakfast Club alum was aware of Duvall’s mental health issues and supported her throughout their time together. He revealed that everything was fine until the actress began to get afraid of things near her retirement in 2002. Gilroy also called out her infamous appearance on Dr. Phil, stating that it “put her on the map as an oddity.”

He finally bid a heartfelt goodbye to his partner of 34 years on July 11, 2024.
