Nunez and several teammates climbed into the spectator seating, where a confrontation with Colombian supporters ensued. According to Uruguay captain José Giménez, the players took action to defend their families amidst the chaotic scene, which lasted several minutes until law enforcement intervened. In a statement to TUDN, he said, “This is a disaster. Our family is in danger. We had to get into the stands to take out our loved ones with small babies, newborns. Everything was a disaster. There was not a single police officer.”
