The ongoing Chinese drama, The Princess Royal, featuring Zhao Jinmai and Zhang Linghe, released episode 29 on July 11, 2024. As seen in the previous installments, the series follows the story of Li Rong (Zhao Jinmai) and Pei Wen Xuan (Zhang Linghe) as a miracle gives them a second chance at life after conspirators cause their demise. Episode 29 focuses on Li Rong resigning from the inspectorate office.
In this episode, Li Rong visits Consort Ruo’s palace. She gets slightly annoyed when Ruo asks her about her divorce. She reveals that she has been busy with her work at the inspectorate office. Then Ruo makes a special request to her. There is a person from her hometown who wants to participate in the spring examination. But since someone stole his spot, he wants to submit a formal complaint. Li Rong’s heart stops when Ruo mentions Chen Houzhao’s name.
Ruo notices her pale expression and asks if she is familiar with him. But Li Rong quickly controls her emotions. She advises Ruo to discuss the matter with the Ministry of Justice. While Li Rong attempts to leave in a hurry, Ruo makes a sly comment about secrets not being hidden forever. She advises Li Rong to be careful while meeting with her ex-spouse, Wenxuan. After Li Rong leaves, Ruo plans to send her subordinates to her palace to keep a close watch.

Li Rong asks Wenxuan’s subordinate to ask Wenxuan to stop meeting her for the time being. Meanwhile, at the imperial court, official Wang accuses Li Rong of abducting and possibly murdering Houzhao. He reveals that Houzhao’s complaint met with a dead end at the inspectorate office, and since then, he has been missing. Although the accusation takes her by surprise, Li Rog quickly composes herself.
She admits that she met with Houzhao, but he left the capital long ago. The emperor launches an investigation against her. Li Rong meets him in private and tries to explain the situation, but the emperor is not ready to listen. He suspends her and puts Prince Su in charge for the time being.

Meanwhile, Li Rong makes a plan with Mr. Cui to trap Ruo using her own method. Wenxuan worries for Li Rong, and despite his subordinate advising him against meeting her, he goes out to visit her palace.
Then, viewers see Li Rong taking a relaxing bath after a long and tiring day. Meanwhile, Wenxuan enters her palace and comforts her. As they take a bath together, they share some steamy moments.
The next day at the court, Li Rong puts forth her resignation from her position as the supervisor of the inspectorate office. She nominates Prince Su to take her place. But many officials, including official Shangguan, oppose the idea. The officials strictly protest when the Emperor announces that he plans on letting Consort Ruo run the office.
What happens in The Princess Royal episode 29’s ending?
The court receives the news that a group of scholars has blocked the palace gate and is demanding justice after their positions have been stolen. They all passed the provincial examination but could not take the spring examination. Wenxuan volunteers to handle the case, but the Emperor turns down his request. Su nominates Li Chuan to examine the matter, but Chuan turns down the offer. Consort Ruo wants Prince Cheng to handle the matter as a practice.
Su Rongqing suspects that the scholars have been planted by Wenxuan. Will Li Rong and Wenxuan be able to expose Consort Ruo and her devious plans?
