Agatha All Along: Will Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff Return?

Following the recent release of the Agatha All Along teaser trailer, fans have been wondering if Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff, aka Scarlet Witch, will return to the MCU. Olsen’s Wanda was last seen in 2022’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. In that film, she seemingly sacrificed herself to atone for her deadly multiversal rampage.

So, is Elizabeth Olsen‘s Scarlet Witch returning to the MCU in Agatha All Along? Here’s your answer.

Will Elizabeth Olsen return as the Scarlet Witch in Agatha All Along?

Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch is not confirmed to return in Agatha All Along.

In the recently released teaser trailer, Wanda’s name appeared in blood-red ink next to the October 13 date. This visual implies her death. Aubrey Plaza’s Rio Vidal then confirmed that Scarlet Witch died, leaving Agatha Harkness trapped in her Westview spell.

Moreover, the official MCU timeline book also confirmed that Scarlet Witch died at the end of the latest Doctor Strange film. It mentions her death occurring in the Fall of 2024. Because the Fall season is mentioned, it lines up with the above October date.

Additionally, reputed industry insider MyTimeToShineHello tweeted on X (formerly Twitter) that Wanda would not be appearing on the show. However, this should be taken with a grain of salt as it is from an unofficial source. This means fans should wait until Agatha All Along comes out to find out if Wanda indeed returns.

How can the Scarlet Witch be resurrected through Agatha All Along?

The Scarlet Witch can likely be resurrected through Agatha All Along via the Witches Road plot point, teased in the official synopsis and Joe Locke’s character.

The synopsis, as per Marvel’s official website, reads:

“In Agatha All Along, the infamous Agatha Harkness finds herself down and out of power after a suspicious goth Teen helps break her free from a distorted spell. Her interest is piqued when he begs her to take him on the legendary Witches’ Road, a magical gauntlet of trials that, if survived, rewards a witch with what they’re missing. Together, Agatha and this mysterious Teen pull together a desperate coven and set off down, down, down The Road…”

The synopsis mentions a “suspicious goth teen,” very likely referring to Joe Locke’s character, who is reportedly playing Billy Kaplan. In Marvel Comics, Kaplan is one of Wanda Maximoff’s sons. It also mentions him begging Agatha to take him to the Witches’ Road and the survival of the magical gauntlet of trials posed by the Witches’ Road, rewarding a witch or magic user with something they are missing.

Thus, if the MCU makes Billy a reincarnation or real version of Wanda’s son and he survives the gauntlet and gets rewarded with something he is missing, he could very likely be the key to bringing Wanda back from the dead. This is clear as he was desperate enough to go to the Witches Road, as mentioned in the synopsis.

Additionally, the Marvel Comics Witches Road storyline saw Wanda and a deceased Agatha investigate a sickness in the witchcraft community. The storyline’s ending saw Agatha return to life. The MCU is known for giving its own spin on adapted comic book storylines. As such, it could switch gears and instead create a way for Wanda to come back to life.
